Another success - talked with a lady that I've seen on the train regularly and wanted to talk with for a while. New insight about religious symbols (or the absence thereof) and what that may or may not imply! :)

Sometimes strangers speak to me... last night a man asked to fill out his multi-ride ticket for him. There was too much of a language barrier for a conversation, but I understood that he was from Afghanistan.

This morning I tried @rainbowssparks 's idea of (1) having no distractions while eating and (2) putting down cutlery while there's food in my mouth. Having a bowl of cereal and a glass of water took almost 20 minutes, I was enjoying awareness of the whole experience and thinking that 12 minutes worth of cereal might be enough...
Lunch was with colleagues, so more focused on them that on the eating experience. Mixed feelings about that. Is the social aspect of eating a good or a bad thing (and to what extent good or bad)?

@runwim different social setting but I've read many times that eating meals together as a family is one of the most important things you can do to strengthen family ties. So I suppose it depends on how much you value the social ties in question.

When I set this goal I was thinking of one thing in particular: break my fasts properly, as in eat a little bit and then wait for the next real meal (and not devour handfuls of peanuts etc.) This is a real must as I want (intermittent) fasting to be a healthy habit!
Now there's a second thing to improve: put down cutlery when there's food in my mouth (thanks @rainbowssparks for mentioning it!). This habit should help with awareness of what and how much I'm eating.

Tried OMAD 3 days OMAD in a row. Day 1 went well, day 2 was hard (partly due to a night with not so much sleep). The morning of day 3 went well, but in the afternoon I couldn't concentrate on work any more from feeling hungry/weird, so I broke the fast about 5 hrs earlier than planned (and felt better soon after that). Still happy that I tried it, but I may need more calories than what I can eat in 1 meal. I'll explore further :)

@aloha50 much depends on how active I am. I've done a 3-day fast once and I was just fine, but I didn't do any exercise then. This time I was eating one meal but I kept running/walking each day. From my experience I think that fasting may not be for everyone.

@runwim What I like most about it is that during the day it's a no brainer for me. I don't have to think about what I will eat (buy), until I get home. The downside is that I drink alcohol, and in the evenings, I go from zero to drunk quickly.

2:30pm and I'm tired as hell. I really need to (a) catch up with sleep and (b) figure out how to get more rest in general. Someone recommended going to bed really early (like 9:30) for a week and then moving into a more realistic schedule (e.g. 10pm). Maybe I should try that?...

@Andia I (used to) love early mornings for running, meditation, or just for the sake of it. With work, commuting and family taking most of my time and additionally being in the process of renovating a house, I unfortunately don't have time or energy to exercise daily. I'm happy if I manage to run 2-3x/week. Other forms of exercise simply don't happen (unless if I'd count the short bike rides to the daycare and back 😉 )
What is keeping you from running these days?

@runwim when I went through my divorce I used food therapy. Plus I quit all my activities from biking, hiking, running, rappelling and just working hard on the farm. Sunk into a depression, moved, started working 14 hours a day. Blah blah blah. Now I am back to a moderate life in a beautiful location and out of shape completely and overweight. It's going to take a bit to get back to where I was. I've started the journey though. The rest will come.

Love that 43T is back. I used to post challenges for myself on here when I was training for century rides. Plan on Posting challenges again once I get out of the beginning stages.

@runwim R and I get up at 4-4:30 on weekdays. I'd been going to bed with the kids anyway, but now we're all in bed by 9. I never thought I would be ready for sleep at 9, but I'm usually zonked 5 minutes after my head hits the pillow. To help us along, we listen to the sleep stories on the Calm meditation app; mostly we listen to the kids' stories, but they have grown-up stories, too. It really helps.

Since we've started going to sleep earlier, I've found that I am better rested in general. I never could have imagined going to bed before midnight before I had the kids, but now I can't imagine going back to my late nights. I feel so much better now!

Sometimes I feel/hear clicking in my shoulder, even when doing simple things such as brushing my teeth. And working on things above shoulder height may be hard/painful/impossible. Bottom line - it's healing, slowly.

I've had a (small-ish) bike accident last Saturday. Just me, no other vehicles involved. I was making a quick trip to a DIY shop when it happened. Result: some scrapes on my legs (which seem to be healing well) and a shoulder which is hurting often (particularly when I reach or when I twist my arm). The shoulder has some dark spots and a larger yellow area. Sigh. It's better now than on Saturday, but I don't want to deal with the pain etc. now.

I need some fresh focus on intermittent fasting. Before Ramadan I was practicing IF 3x/week (i.e. eating only between 5:30pm and 11pm). Then I observed Ramadan, 29 days of IF in a row, which took quite some discipline. Since the end of Ramadan (end June) I've practiced IF only twice 😞 I've tried more often, but the coffee machine at work is literally 5 steps away from my desk and has excellent (and free) hot chocolate...
My long term idea is to practice IF on weekdays, limiting my calorie intake to one meal (dinner) and having only water & tea for the rest of the day.

@aloha50 Correct, I don't need to lose weight 🙂 Although extensive research is missing, there are indications that calorie restriction would be beneficial for long term health. so I'm trying to integrate CR in my life. And fasting is easier for me than eating less, so I'm choosing to fast regularly.

@runwim wow thanks, I feel honored! fasting works wonders! I'm really bad at IF in the morning, it's much easier for me to have a hearty breakfast, a light lunch and fast from there until the next morning as the longest fasting part (sleeping) is unconscious and then you eat haha 😃 but there are people who tend to skip their breakfasts and they're perfectly fine! good luck, fingers crossed! :)

@katayah For me it's important to have a family dinner, so I won't skip that. On the other hand, I get up before the rest of the family and I often exercise during my lunch break at work, so it's easier to skip those meals. And I obviously don't eat while I sleep ;)

You can type any date in plain English like in 3 weeks or next month.
You can also type in recurring due date like every day, every week and every month.
