Early to bed last night. Lots of garlic at dinner tonight. The sinuses are draining to my throat, but I don't have a headache. I am the only one happy to see the snow - at least my head doesn't hurt.

It's finally going! I met with the Social Worker and nurse on Monday. MIL's niece was there, too (somehow she has inserted her into the process) MIL was having such a good day that the nurse warned us at one point that she was not showing the need for care and was close to being denied! Stressful. Finally they asked some questions about math (which she can't comprehend anymore) and her dementia started to appear from then on. I hated her embarrassment, but we need to have this assistance.

@missak I hope the cuts that trump is trying to make don't affect this for her. My brother in law uses it, too. He lives on about $1000 a month and can't afford health insurance any other way.

@diamondlightfoot I hope so, too. This is a good program, rather new, that allows seniors to stay in the home with medicaid paying for the in-home care. They realize that it is cheaper than paying for a nursing home if it is possible for them to still be in their own home. (although, we still have to pay for utilities and maintenance of the home, which uses all of her social security)

@missak It's incredible how much nursing homes cost. I hope I'll always be able to take care of myself and Harlan, too. I see this all too often, working with taxes. The nursing homes in this area take their homes as collateral if the social security isn't enough to meet their costs, leaving little for any family to inherit.

I was trying to explain to her neighbor that we can't afford to pay his 12 year old nephew $40/week for lawn mowing. We pay the caregiver nearly $1000/month. His response :" the caregiver better learn to mow lawn!". What a jerk. He was the one that shamed us that there wasn't someone there taking care of her. Now he is complaining that her lawn isn't kept as nicely as he wants. Ugh! So, I'm failing at everything ~ once again.

btw - lesson learned. (in Michigan) If you hire a family member/friend to be a caregiver and claim the expense on the application, you must have a caregiver agreement in place before they begin working! ot

April is done. The application is in, but they need more information. We are averaging about $250/month to mom to help her with her expenses. It is getting really frustrating.

    1. I cleaned out the art bin and moved it to Claire's room. I purged and cleaned all morning! I love how the first floor looks!!

    2. We had the Webelos over for their last meeting of the year. The leader has gotten swamped at work, but we wanted to be sure the boys were still on track, so the other parents stepped up to the challenge.

    3. I'm off work this week and I was able to walk to school to pick up the kids and walk home. I love walking home with them. They really open up about the day - even the boy!

    1. I gave my two week notice at work. The attorney I work with most was very nice about it. The staff has been very unpleasant here, but I like the work and the attorneys.

    2. I received an email from my future boss with my training schedule. I get two weeks in Chicago, but it will be my second and fifth week on the job. That will be so much easier than dumping it all on in the first two weeks!

    3. Helping my daughter with her sea turtle project. Gluing glass beads onto styrofoam. Tried a few different ways - then bought a glue gun!

    1. Soccer was cancelled, so we had a lazy morning. (it had been raining for 5 days straight. i can't imagine what the soccer fields look like!)

    2. Woman's show with a friend - not really a friend. I was giving her another chance because she seems so needy, but she gets on my last nerve. I feel bad that I was counting down the minutes until I got home. On the other hand, the Woman's Expo was fun and I found the allusive bamboo toaster tongs Andrew broke last year.

    3. A's team won the hockey game AND he scored a goal.

    4. BBQ chicken salad at Bagger Dave's was delicious. I usually feel let down when I order a salad when everyone else gets a burger, but the salad was the best i've had in ages~

    1. I went shopping for new work clothes and found some things.

    2. Lazy morning

    3. The day ended with a good conversation. It was a rough day, but DH opened up to me at the end about what was bothering him.

Now that I'm going to be earning a bit more, I'm hoping we can start doing a bit of these things around the house.

SIL sent me a text about MILs vacuum cleaner. I never responded.
DH finally got the online banking back up (I'm not on the account, so the bank won't talk to me) If he didn't sense the urgency, I wasn't going to push it. It's his mom.

I had a call from the woman taking care of my MIL. She told me how she quit her job, sold her house, and moved in with her parents to take care of them as they declined with age. She keeps saying how quickly MIL has declined and all of the things that need to be done for her now. I feel like I should be doing more, but her own son, my husband, doesn't feel the same way. I refuse to feel guilty when HE doesn't want to step up to the challenge.

My cousin called to tell me he is getting a divorce. He had a very serious health scare last month (collapsed at work and had to be revived by defibrillator). They had been living in two different states because she wanted to be near her mom and he couldn't work in his specialty in that area. I was hoping they could make it last. This is so sad.

I had a very good conversation with the other mom at the cookie booth last night. She doesn't feel very comfortable with many of the brownie moms. She's a really nice person.

You can type any date in plain English like in 3 weeks or next month.
You can also type in recurring due date like every day, every week and every month.
