I won a lot of things. Two travels, smartphones, kitchen tools and robot, bags, shopping cards, and lots and lots of cosmetics. In that period I was jobless and in a severe depression, taking part in contests helped me to stay without thinking about my problems. Winning contests is just about statistics, as far as I've tried and tested, you win about 2-3 contests every 100 you take part in. Don't get fooled by people that brags about winning everything and often. If they do, it only means that for them it is like a full time job. And it is a frustating one, I assure you. Often there is something you want so much that goes to someone else that takes part in contests to resell thing. Because at least 90% of contesting people does it on regular basis and after a while you get to know each one of them. That, usually, take part in contests with multiple accounts. To contribute to frustation there are friends and relatives too, that see your hobby as stupid and don't want the assle to spend time in contesting but they never miss a chance to ask in gift what you won because, after all, you didn't paid it. I've stopped senseless contesting about two years ago. From time to time I take part in a contest for some big prize (one never knows) but I find more rewarding buying what I really want and choose. Of course it does, those all are the fundament of our identities, it is undeniable. It doesn't automatically imply, however that one does not have respect for other's culture and ethnicity. This depends on individual personality.
