presently I'm writing and working on getting my book published
God, His word, my book and writing
God, family, books and writing, finding the joy in things
I think I did it! Of course every author think there work is amazing and should become the next best seller... Right?
I finished my first query letter and I'm sending it first thing tomorrow and I'll know within 30 to 60 days
As much as I think I've done a great job. I would be amazed if my first query letter, for my first novel was met with a positive response.
@flutterbyyou It sounds like you have realistic expectations but you are also being positive. It's great that you believe in your work and I am very excited for you!
[shahyn] verb (used without object), shone or shined, shining.
1. to give forth or glow with light; shed or cast light.
2. to be bright with reflected light; glisten; sparkle.
3. (of light) to appear brightly or strongly, especially uncomfortably so: Wear dark glasses so the sun won't shine in your eyes.
this is my goal.
mainly definitions 2 to be bright with reflected light; glisten; sparkle.
to reflect God's light for all to see.
reflect being the operative word.
not my own light, but His.
I want to be immersed in His light and love. to be filled so full that I glisten, shine and sparkle in a way that draws others to Him. not in a way that looks judgmental or pushes people away, but in a way that makes people say "hey, what do you have and how can I have it"
we all have our hurts and flaws. we're all broken.
God's light and love is what heals.
I want to reflect that light, love and healing to all those around me.
@flutterbyyou You do shine very brightly flutter
@newsurfiegirl thanks surfie
I've been working on this for awhile now and I can finally say I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
one medical bill of $100 left to pay. That will be paid with my next paycheck.
I have$700ish of school loan
and $2000 left on car payment
of course we still have taxes and new bills that come up
but that's life
@flutterbyyou i am happy you do. God bless you and your family!
@flutterbyyou How is this going?
I've lost 4 lbs since starting this goal. Not that awe inspiring, but I'll take it.
@flutterbyyou It's great anyway!
@flutterbyyou I think it is inspiring. When I had to lose weight, I asked the question, "How does one lose a lot of weight?'"
The answer I got was "A little bit at a time."
So it seems you are on track.
eating has always been a hurdle for me. I've had an eating disorder since high school. for many years it was anorexia. those of you that were my friends back on the old days of 43t will probably remember my struggle and how I was able to finally start eating.
well, when I started eating I wasn't able to control that either, and now I'm at 200 lbs. that's quite a lot for someone as short as I am.
my problem is magnafied by my anorexia. when I try to go on a diet, I stop eating altogether.
I need to find the balence
you helped me before, 43 friends, I need your help again.
@flutterbyyou I'm sure you can do it!
@flutterbyyou We're here for you. You can get back on track and have balance again.
@flutterbyyou I will help you any way I can, and any way you need.
I know losing weight is not easy, but I have faith in you, and that you will figure it out.
Just keep at it and don't give up.
@flutterbyyou I struggled with eating disorders for several years when I was younger, and in some ways still do. It's kind of a constant awareness that I live with and have grown accustomed to. I could still easily become that version of myself again, and every moment of every day I feel like I have to make a conscious choice not to. It has gotten easier with time, but it's not something I will ever forget.
The key to relief for me, and the hardest part as well, was just being present for myself and observing what I was doing and allowing myself to stop, or not, without judgement.
I know these things can feel very isolating and I usually assume that not everyone has the same experience as me. But if my words can help at all, I'm here for you.
@flutterbyyou Could it help to redefine what the word diet means to you? Rather than it being connected to weight loss, maybe it can just be about the foods that you regularly consume, which at its core, is what diet really is. If this is too hard to separate, maybe you can eliminate the word altogether. Eliminate the idea of going on any kind of diet, and instead make healthier choices the focus.
I think it's so wonderful that you were able to start eating again and I'm sure this couldn't have been easy. I hope you can continue to nourish your body in a healthy way so that it can continue to serve you on your journey through this life.
Often weight loss can come from small, simple changes, e.g. reducing portion size a bit at each meal (e.g.: smaller plate or not going in for a second serving) or, rather than giving up food altogether, choosing to let go of certain foods that aren't serving us (or even just having them less often).
Can I ask, do you enjoy food now?
I've been doing this at work. It's the only place I've gone in awhile that has more than one level. Just having this on my goal list is helping me.
to all of you fiction reader out there in 43things land
Do you like to see an epilog at the end of a book?
why or why not?
@flutterbyyou It depends upon how the epilogue fits in with the rest of the story. If it adds something I view that as a positive but if it comes off as a bit random and unrelated I think it would be better to leave it out.
@celticchristian it going along with the book but I'm just not sure if I should make it the last chapter or an epilogue
@flutterbyyou Can the novel still function as a complete story if you leave out the last chapter? I always thought the epilogue was more of additional insight into the story, such as the characters looking back to the ending sometime in the future. Other types of epilogues are a change in format, like a letter or journal entry that a character wrote in reflection to the events of the story. So if it is a question of if you should label it as an epilogue or not it is probably best to just leave it as the last chapter.
@celticchristian an epilogue adds additional information in some form. I could write it either way. The last chapter, of I write it as that, needs to be in the book because it wraps up and answers a question that was aksed in the beginning of the book about the main character, but it takes place two or three months from the chapter before it. So it could really be written either way
@flutterbyyou In that case it sounds like the classic epilogue to me.
@flutterbyyou If it enhances the reader's experience of the book in some way, then yes. An epilogue doesn't have to tie all loose ends together, but sometimes it makes more sense of them. :-)
@flutterbyyou I generally like epilogues. I get invested in the characters and like a little window into what happened to them.
@flutterbyyou I love epilogues. It lets you know the long term conclusion.
One of my favorite things about the old 43t was that I was able to get on the site from work when all other social media sites were blocked.
So how about now?
Are you able to get on social media sites from work?
Can you get on 43t if you're other social media sites are blocked?
@flutterbyyou what work? lol
@anne89 I wish I could say the same. :}
@flutterbyyou With the birth of smartphones I do not think that matters as much now. Any site which has an app or even a mobile friendly site, like 43T, can not be fully blocked.
@celticchristian we can't use our phones at work unless we're on break and off the floor. Crazy high security, and all social media sites are blocked for us too
@flutterbyyou Ironically that is a blessing when it comes to respecting your privacy. Work place computers are not the most secure when it comes to ability to be easily watched.
@flutterbyyou I don't work at a desk so if I want to be on social media, I have to use my phone. My computer use at work is limited and all the computers are restricted so much that it is hard to find any site that isn't blocked, social or not.
writing a book is a lot of hard work. It's the kind of work I love... most of the time, but still work. but anything worth doing is hard. And this was definitely worth it!
I can do whatever I believe I can do and commit to finish.
it's 4:30 am and I'm having another one of those sleepless nights. now that I'm so close to finishing my book (less than half a chapter) I am less and less able to fall asleep. my mind spins and spins with all I need to do.
I just read an article on the steps to write a book. in short, here they are.
1 first draft
2 let it sit awhile before going back to it
3 second draft
4 have someone read it
5 you read it like it was a book ( not yours
6 self edit/ touch up/ rewrite
7 professional edit
8 send to literary agent/publisher/self publish
I'm almost done with step 6 and my editor has already started on the first chapter.
why am I starting to panic now?
I swear this is almost like having a baby. when I had my kids I wasn't able to sleep much the last month, but I think it was more from all the wondering, worry and excitement than from being uncomfortable as most women say. what would they look like? how will life be different? what do I need to do as they grow?
fun how these are the same question I have about my writing and my book.
the next step is my next goal.
publish my book!
@flutterbyyou You are not the only one. I read a book on writing and the author made the point that writing a book is the closest a man can come to experiencing giving birth.
Almost done! I'm stuck right now on the last chapter. I'm trying to decide if I should extend it or use it as an epilog.
@flutterbyyou exciting! congratulations on getting so far on your book!
@wyverndust thank you! I'm excited too. I can't believe my dream is finally coming to fruition
I'm so close. I finished the first draft back when we had the old 43t but never could get past the 4th chapter of my second draft. Last year I finally finished the second draft and now I just have the last chapter of my editing to complete. I'm so excited!

day 3 1 I felt terrible but I had the day off work so I could just lay down for most of it. 2 My amazing hubby found my favorite tea in a nearby store. I've always had to order it online which can make it quite expensive with shipping and handling. 1 hubby then made me tea : }
1 free food from work for lunch today
2 it's been a nice, calm day at work and I only have 20 minutes left until my weekend begins
