Last weekend I didn't make it officially out for a walk, but I did serious yardwork in my yard and I think it counts for something- I saw lots of birds...juncos and wrens, blue jays and heard hummingbirds but didn't see them (they are everywhere in my yard and love my red lawn mowing hat!). Got up close and personal with a nest accidentally tipping the baby birds out while trimming a vine 😞. Pulled lots of native weeds....trimmed back some ferns....

Yesterday I went to a beach on the shores of Puget Sound. It was low tide and there were all sorts of critters in need of saving: starfish, sand dollars, sea slugs, tiny eels, crabs as well as giant moon snail "liners" washing up. The sun was out and it was 80 degrees with a nice breeze! To the West, the Olympic Mountains....to the East, Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Mountains.

In keeping with the advice of the book "The Artist's Way," schedule time once a week to either work on special projects or simply get my creativity flowing. That time is unnegotiable, and will be treated as a "date with myself" and blocked off on my calendar. That time may be used for writing music, creating art, working on a creative expressive project that beautifies my home, writing my book, taking classes that advance my creative expression (art, dance, music) or other ways that inspire my creativity.

This goal is in keeping with some principles from "FlyLady." I have used her cleaning and organization methods over the years, not 100%, but would like to keep aiming for some of the habits that have been positive when implemented. One of those is shining and clearing my sink daily, others are things such as making my bed, and establishing cleaning maintenance routines

Rather than living in lack, this goal states "Live as if I already have it." It involves embracing behaviors related to my goals and the person I am growing to be in full abundance. For example, if I am seeking a relationship, I should be living as if I already have one, content in what I have. What does that look like? I will reflect on these things later.

    Day 1 Assessment

Things done this morning for my routine:

    Visualize- sort of
Journal- was rough but did it
    Meditation- done
    Drink water-done
    Gratitude practice- meh
    Review goals- sort of
    Dry brush- done
    Cold shower- brrrrrr!! Done!
    Get ready get dressed- Done
    Affirmations- nada
    Grab lunch- nope
    Chai- done
    Breakfast- nope
    Vitamins- nope

    Score: 9 out of 14

Observations from today: energy level high, mood good, individual surprised me wanting to go for a walk, got the strangest but coolest job offer ever (thinking of creating a position for me- not a done deal on the offer but appears serious) delivered in the most unique way ever (the stuff of movies- I was in shock, honestly, not at the proposal but the delivery method)!

Morning routine components I want to incorporate.....

So normally I have between an hour and an hour and a half before other duties in the morning. It takes me about 45 min on average to get ready (much less if I don't have to dry my very thick hair).

    Visualize
    Journal
    Meditation
Drink water (put on night stand before bed)
    Gratitude practice
    Review goals
    Dry brush (before showering)
    Shower
    Cold shower (end of shower)
    Get dressed/ready
Affirmations (attach one to each action/trigger- getting dressed? I.e. Say to myself "Trust the Process" every time I put on my shoes, affirmation for brushing teeth, etc. )
Grab lunch out of fridge (prepacked)
    Chai
    Grab breakfast (prepacked)
    Grab vitamins

    That's a start!!

I've had a lot of loss in my family...and realizing I will be an empty nester early due to only having one kiddo is challenging me to rethink what I want to do with my life....where I want to live, visit, what I want to do....sky is the limit!! I'm realizing my dream of having the conventional American nuclear family never fully panned out- one kiddo, divorce....not at least 2 as I imagined and celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary! This has been my powerful "mantra" of sorts, reminding myself that God, the Universe, or a higher power/force is ultimately in control and desires the best for me. It helps me to let go of the need to control my outcomes in life but to trust the process, and having patience, and looking for the lessons in little obstacles to my goals that may appear in life.

Spire still going strong, although I'm still wondering what the threshold is for the tense Alert. It registered 12 minutes of tension today- not bad but I noticed in 2-3 minute bursts. I generally felt productively stressed but seems it only picked up the most tense of moments and a few I was unaware of. Must investigate.

    Day 4 of Spire

So Friday I had 17 minutes of tension recorded....higher than Thursday but much lower than the first two days, which were close to an hour of tension each day!! That being said, I think it is picking up the worst of the tension, as I felt anxiety at other times but breathed through it and it was not recorded as tension....

So...I think this is only part of the equation but my breathing habits have gotten noticeably better!!

So next thing to add to my regiment:

    1. Magnesium supplements

    2. Vit B complex supplements

    3. Exercise

    4. Massage

    5. Stretching

    Day 3 of Spire usage!

Ok....so maybe I wore it slightly off today?? Either that or the vitamin D I had this morning had a calming effect? Or I just had a calm day??

It registered zero moments of tension and a seriously increased number of moments and duration of focus and calm- especially focus.....

I will watch it tomorrow for comparison. I know I had moments of tension today, but perhaps I breathed through them correctly??

    Day 2 of Spire usage!

Today I was much more tense (1 hour of tension-gasp!) than yesterday. The stretches were also longer, occurring in meetings, and during ruminating. I didn't do the breathing exercises as frequently today vs yesterday so I think maybe they had helped. Loving this device!

    Working on 2017!

2016 was horrible. Multiple deaths and illnesses in the family, a painful breakup, health crisis and kiddo with broken leg all made for a yucky second half of the year.

What have I done to make this year different?

Booked that trip to Venice...you know what I'm talking about...(cue James Bond theme music)

Worked on keeping up my yard to the best of my ability

Re-entered the dating scene, although currently am as free as a bird

Used a meal/recipe delivery service to learn some new cooking techniques

Used StitchFix clothing service and a personal stylist- saves me time, money and I look good too!

Took a few online classes around self-improvement

What do I still need to do??

Expand!! This is where I look at acting into a new way of thinking to create new neural pathways that will help me become more of what I desire to be....

This involves identifying my ideal self, figuring out what she would do differently from today, identify the gap between the now and the future and then take steps to shift to the future. The calendar is my vehicle to make it happen!!

This is a big goal with many ways it can be met. A few thoughts..... some things I love and have some skill for: acting and public speaking. I had the thought today to consider the following: get into improv, take a standup comedy class and /or find a Toastmasters again and have my son come with me so he can learn too.... I feel I need to develop my verbal quick thinking confidence and lighten things up to reclaim my right brain. I felt happiest and most free when I am doing something to move (dance or martial arts), create (drawing, writing) and verbally expressing (acting, impromptu speeches). I should follow that instinct

What is love? This is a question I've been pondering lately, and I've come to the conclusion, at least in English speaking cultures, there is a lot of confusion partially due to the linguistic limitations of the language. In English, there is only one word to describe "love." It is used to describe many different types of "love" that other cultures and languages have words for.
The Ancient Greeks, for example, had 6 words for love:

    1. Eros, or sexual passion

    2. Philia, or deep friendship

    3. Ludus, or playful love

    4. Agape, or love for everyone

    5. Pragma, or longstanding love

    6. Philautia, or love of the self

For the purpose of this goal, I wish to focus on #4, Agape, or love for everyone, as I believe this one to be the foundation of the others, along with #6, Philautia, or love of the self.

With exception to narcissists, I believe many Christians and those influenced by Christian culture today misinterpret Philautia, by confusing the nobility of "dying to self" with self-neglect, extreme unworthiness, lack of boundaries, and sometimes denial of joy, pleasure or self-expression.

True and authentic love is solid, pure, expansive and expressive. If you cannot have a degree of healthy Philautia, and realize that you are here on this earth for a reason, and have a right to shine and share your gifts in the fullness of who YOU are as a person and who you were created to be, it is very hard to expand to true Agape.
If we can love ourselves in a healthy way, we can love others, and in turn love attracts love- we get love in return.

Soooo......I almost didn't cook tonight.....but then I remembered I had an organic delivery the other day and had tomatoes and fennel to use up....so I researched pasta recipes.....

Here is the one I did: I didn't have any kalamata olives so used black instead. Definitely needs kalamata for the bitter to contrast with the salty capers and sweet sauce....but wasn't bad. I also had no saffron or pine nuts or parsley....

Coolest lesson learned- cooking the garlic in olive oil unpeeled a few minutes makes it so much nicer to press!!

Made Russian vegan borscht and pyrahi late last night. These recipes were handed down in my family via my late grandmother who's mother came from southern Russia to Canada before the communist revolution with the help of Tolstoy.

It was a challenge this time because I had to make it gluten-free. The flour made the dough tricky to maneuver and so I was not able to recreate my grandmas "weave" in the pastry, but they baked just find and were pretty tasty! I need to practice more.

So happy to find this site resurrected!! I hope to find some familiar places on here- I'm using my same user name as way back when. 😀

I had an amazing conversation with someone in Michigan today- a new kindred spirit I met through my online class. She and I have similar pasts and goals, so it was exciting to compare notes and challenge each other on our goals. Continuous growth, empowering friendships, expansion of potential and freedom to be one's self! Such a rich and blessed discussion. I think I've met a new friend- and even though I'm on the West Coast, my far away friends give me excuses to travel!!

I video chatted with a new friend I've never met before in California tonight that I met through a class I'm taking- it was great and we will hopefully continue to chat in the near future!
