Lose weight

    Last year I started the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mt. in Georgia at 160 lbs. I knew I would lose weight, but by mid Pennsylvania I plateaued off at around 130, and I was eating as many calories as possible, as I could only carry lightweight foods like Ramen noodles, dehydrated meals, oatmeal, Pop-Tarts, Clif bars, trail mix, instant soups, hard cheeses, pepperoni slices, tortillas, tuna fish packets, rice, Knorr noodles, instant potatoes, peanut butter packets, Snickers bars, beef jerky, cheese & crackers, cookie packs, powdered Gatorade, hot chocolate, and apple cider packets.

    Now, I don't suggest hiking 1400 miles as I did, at least not right off the bat, but if you put a pack on your back and go backpacking on any trail near you for a few days every two weeks or so it will help to increase your metabolism, help your cardiovascular health, strengthen your muscles, and help you de-stress. Stress is one thing that causes us to retain body fat, and we experience it daily, at our jobs, dealing with stupid people, on the road, standing in long lines, trying to get in and out of stores, dealing with bills, yelling at our children, our spouses, the pets, fighting the clutter and endless trivial annoyances of our lives, etc. etc. etc.

    Get out, Go for a walk, Go backpacking, camping. Learn what you need to go out there with confidence that you will survive, that you aren't going to be eaten by bears, or attacked by snakes. You will find that after you get over your initial fear of being in the outdoors that all of your stress will drop away and you will find yourself enjoying the solitude and being out in nature.

    My current stats are:

    168.0 lbs (Weight): -9.7 lbs.
    33.3% (Body Fat): +0.5
    31.6% (Muscle Mass): -0.1 (This can't be right, but ok)
    47.0% (Water): 0.0

    16.0 lbs to go! My goal weight is 148-152 lbs.

    Things that might impact my weight today:
    1- Did you eat any snacks yesterday?: No
    2- Did you exercise yesterday?: Yes

    Stay hydrated (current goal: 96 oz/day)
    1- How much water did you drink yesterday? 48 oz (This is really hard. I must try to do better)

    5/21 I have been eating really bad, fattening food for the last 3 days... so when I got on the scale for my weekly weigh in today I was pretty worried, but I ended up loosing another 3 pounds! Total weight loss is at 63 pounds now! 😃 So happy!

    My current stats are:

    167.8 lbs (Weight): -9.9 lbs.
    33.8% (Body Fat): 0.0
    31.2% (Muscle Mass): +0.5
    46.5% (Water): -0.5

    15.8 lbs to go! My goal weight is 148-152 lbs.

    Things that might impact my weight today:
    1- Did you eat any snacks yesterday?: No
    2- Did you exercise yesterday?: Yes

    Stay hydrated (current goal: 96 oz/day)
    1- How much water did you drink yesterday? 96 oz

    Note: I don't trust the the body comp percentages on my Weight Gurus scale. I notice that when my weight goes down, my Body Fat % goes up. According to my current stats, my body fat is the same that it was on 3/20 when I weighed 177.7 lbs. That can't be right. I've been working out hard core 5 days a week and walking + running on the other 2 days. Anyway, I'll keep posting the numbers here but I don't think the BF and MM percentages are accurate.
    Also, I woke up feeling a bit dehydrated even though I drank 96 oz of water yesterday. I think I need to increase my water consumption because I sweat a lot (profusely) during my weekday workouts.
