    Through a BIA test (bioelectrical impedance analysis), I was able to learn that my phase angle (or cell health) was very good - at the top of the range.

    I learned that I have insufficient vitamin D (which is probably fairly common) so I will start to take a supplement.

    I couldn't help but wonder how this was affecting me, though, seeing as most of us wouldn't even know we are lacking it. I wondered what difference it would make to have a sufficient amount and what the main benefits of this vitamin were.

    We may most often think of the absorption of calcium. When I asked what it was good for, the three main things mentioned were the immune system, bones, and long-term health and the prevention of certain cancers (it seems there may be a correlation between certain cancers and low vitamin D).

    In my case, it is the bones and long-term health that motivate me to increase my levels. It was also interesting to hear about someone with MS who only used vitamin D as a treatment, and of family members who would normally all fall ill (e.g. cold season) and then didn't once they increased their vitamin D.

    My weight is something I need to start addressing. It could be worse, but it could be better and it is bothering me more.

    The rest of last week wasn't great in terms of water and I didn't do my yoga.🙁 Beginning of this week not great for water either!

    -Only had a few sips of water and wasn't very active.

    Day 3:
    -Drank most of 600ml and did some walking - enough to consider it my exercise for the day.

    Day 4:
    -Took a few sips and wasn't very active.

    Week of July 31

    Day 1:
    -Drank 600ml of water (but also drank some other things I shouldn't have). I tried drinking half upon waking but maybe managed about a third. Tried to take sips throughout the day and drank most this evening.
    -Walked about 20 minutes outside.

    Goals for week of July 31:

    -Yoga at least once
    -Some exercise outdoors (e.g.: bike riding, swimming, etc.)
    -Drink at least 500ml of water each day (drink half when I wake up and half before going to bed).

    A 28 day streak of stretching me feet and the inflammation has almost gone done. Metatarsals are feeling much better, an the tendons sloooowly lengthen and relax.
    I'll keep that up for sure.

      @spatz I broke my foot a few years ago (3 metatarsal bones). Other than having to wear a boot for a couple of months, it was recommended that I wear a shoe that has a hard sole. I chose to wear Tiva's. Something about those hard soles really helped stretch whatever was hurting. I remember telling people it felt like my foot wasn't a part of me, but like healed broken pieces. I still wear my Tiva's to go for walks that are under 3 miles.

        @aloha50 That's interesting - I suspected my choice of shoes had something to do with it. Strangely, I've felt better in soft shoes. I wonder if that's a good choice...

          @spatz the Tivas are like slippers with two straps across the top and one at the back of my foot for support (not very attractive). It's the sole of the shoe that is nice and firm that really helped me. I have another pair that has a lot of straps at the top of the shoe, but I don't think they would be as comfortable for long walks. That is what helped me with the Tivas, I was able to take long walks and felt like it really strengthened my foot.

            @aloha50 I've never seen them around here. Will have to look for something similar around, hopefully. They sound really helpful.

              @spatz I walked 4 miles in them last night. It was not supposed to be that long of a walk, but we walked with friends. I am attaching a photo of one. It's the sole I want you to look at that is very solid. With your cooler weather, it may not work for you.

    Goal: Take care of my body.

    Body: I have been thinking about creating this type of goal for some time now. I'm not sure that it is a goal I can ever quite mark as fulfilled due to its ongoing nature and I'm not sure if it will be ideal due to the fact that it will encompass a lot of smaller goals, but I wanted to have a place to group together different goals related to my health. We'll see how it goes. I have been meaning to organize a few of my goals for a while, and as I looked through some of the past entries for this one, I realized that instead of adding a new goal, I could simply modify this one.

    When I think about taking care of my body, I think about three main areas as a foundation:


    1. Sleep


    What I would like is to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep, and to get to bed before midnight, ideally around 11pm.


    1. Diet


    I would like to move towards a simpler, more natural diet including more whole foods, more fruits and vegetables, and less processed foods. I would also like to keep hydrated.


    1. Exercise


    Ultimately, my ideal was to do some form of cardio three times per week, for at least 30 minutes, and strength training twice per week, for at least 15 minutes, in addition to daily stretching. These days, I am feeling a bit more flexible with the types of exercises, as long as I am getting regular exercise, but I will still use the previous goals as a guideline.

    I also think relaxation, checkups and appointments, and possibly a health journal are important.

    I would like to find something I can do daily or weekly that would relax my mind and body. I would like to ensure I am getting regular checkups annually, and would like to offer my body special treatments, for example a massage, hair cut, etc., four times per year (once per season).

    I think I am fairly in tune with my body but I would like to improve this. I would like to be attentive to how different foods and exercises make me feel, and would like to lead my body to a healthier, more balanced state.

    Body: I have been thinking lately about ways to improve my health, including my physical health.

    Of course there is the general idea of eating well, getting enough sleep and exercise, reducing stress, etc.

    I asked myself what would make me feel healthier and started to identify specific areas I would like to improve. I like that this way, I can take concrete steps and see the progress.

    The following are some of the things that would make me feel better, healthier (in no particular order):

    -Having more energy

    -Having a flat stomach/not being bloated

    -Having healthy bowel movements regularly

    -Having stronger legs

    -Improving my cardio (being able to run longer without tiring)

    -Improving the quality of the toenails on one of my feet (fungus)

    -Having a healthy mouth

    -Going for regular check-ups (medical, dental, etc.)
