I have dreaded this task due to the immensity of it ever since moving and other priorities kept surfacing to the top. I now have to say I am nearly done with it! My car is loaded with goodwill, the neighbor inherited a few things and the trashcans are full. There are still containers I have to go through to actually get rid of things but that will come at a later time. It is nearly organized and now able to park a car in it if I so desire. Sooo happy and worn out!

Now I gotta get back after it. It’s nearly 4pm and not much time left of the weekend. Bummer!

@priyantha I have that goal too. After the hurricane hit here I was really kicking myself for having put this off. It's now moved to the top of my list.

There is a need to organize the storage space, and to clean the unnecessary stuff in the garage.

This has been in my list for over 2 years now. This summer, it will be done. :)

We can now fit 2 cars and 4 bicycles in the garage and I really didn't think it could be done.  Very few of our neighbors can put two cars in their 2-car garages.  Most can fit one car and there are some that can't fit any vehicles or bicycles in their garages because it's so filled with clutter of all types.

When we moved in in Jul'15, my husband suggested we get rid of some things, but I couldn't bear to part with very much.  But, I've been getting EMDR counseling since Apr'15 and though things were slow going the first year plus, we have been chipping away at all this emotional baggage I've been carrying.

When I decided to go on a 40-day Fast from Facebook, it was amazing.  I began to declutter my Browser Bookmarks, which included stuff from both my previous marriages, a boyfriend before my current husband, some friends that were no good for me.  Getting rid of their Bookmark stuff, merging of the browser stuff because I've upgraded a couple laptops in the past 20 yrs, getting  rid of A LOT of bookmarks . . . I felt such freedom.

I began also backing up stuff and being more organized with stuff.  This process will take much longer, but I at least have everything on my laptop backed up to the Amazon Drive, which is unlimited storage for $60/yr (I think).

I'm thinking I won't get back on FB to interact until I get all my electronic and virtual stuff backed up on the Amazon Drive.  That's been on hold for the past month as I dealt with the garage.

Though I have moving boxes to get rid of, I am going to mark this goal as completed because I'm able to fit 2 cars and the 4 bicycles in our garage without damaging anything.

Over the next month, I will be tackling every drawer, every cabinet in our home, decluttering, organizing, and getting rid of things either through donation or tossing.  Probably after I finish with the physical decluttering/organizing, I will get back to tackling similarly to declutter/organize my electronic files.

After that is done, I probably will get back on FB, which might not be until summer at this rate.  But, I am okay with that.

For this summer, I am going to organize all my photos, especially the older ones that were on 35 mm.

The mobile shredding guy came to my home.  It cost me $114 to shred 1 1/2 huge recycling bins, a large case of an assortment of discs from floppies to CDs/DVDs, 3 hard drives.  The house call was $70, which includes 1 large recycling bin (this was about nine 13-gallon trash bags).

I figured it would cost at least $100 and I was right.  It was much easier to have Josh come to my home than for me to drive to wherever he was.  The stuff was pretty heavy.  Each of the hard drives were $8/each and he only charged me $8 for the large case of discs.  He only charged me $12 for the 1/2 recycling bin.

Normally, it's about $10/bag if you have more than 1 bag, otherwise $15 and you go to wherever they are at.  I've been using them for a couple years and they are a family owned business.

I love seeing my stuff shredded right there on the truck.  I shredded things going all the way back to high school that I still kept that I wanted gone.  When you're dealing with that much stuff, it's much easier to get rid of things.

Honestly, I think when I started this process about a month ago, decluttering my garage, my clothes were tighter.  I haven't done any hard workouts or exercise, minus my weekly self-defense classes.  I've been mainly doing restorative stuff since New Year's, easy stuff for my body as I've been doing so much with all this decluttering, soccer, and other things.

It feels like a huge weight has been lifted off me, and my clothes feel looser.

When we moved 1 1/2 yrs ago, I moved all this stuff, but now, when we move again, there will be far less stuff to move.  Even with what is left, I think eventually I can get rid of 10 more boxes.

Would love to have some shelving that comes 1/3rd or halfway down the wall of either the north wall or the west wall so we can take some of the lighter stuff off the ground and have it up and leave the space below it empty.  That's a want, not a need.

@ligemst  good work! about 6 times a year, there are free recycling, electronics recycling and shredding events in my town. You are right, if you have a lot it is tough transporting it, but because they do it so frequently, I just take a little each time. They shred it right in front of you. I can't believe how organized you are!

@wyverndust  - Thank you.  I'm sure they have stuff like that here, but I wanted it done when I wanted it and was willing to pay.  $8 to "shred" the media was easy and well worth the $8.

The other stuff, it was so much that I didn't want to wait for those "free shredding" things and I wanted to see it shredded right in front of me, which here, the free shredding days that I've been to don't shred it right in front of you.

Cool that your shredding/recycling stuff does it in front of you.  :)

The garage is looking pretty good. So much white wall space. I would like to have some more shelving and possibly something that would allow us to hook our bikes but still easy to remove and go cycling.

Anxiously awaiting the shredding company and that will get rid of a lot of stuff and free up space for a bike to go in its place. I'll be able to put 2 bikes in front of my car, I think.

Need to get rid of a bunch of moving boxes as they are taking up valuable space. I'll put up something in Next Door to see if anyone wants some free boxes. Then, 1 bike can go in front of my husband's car.

It's almost time for my self-defense class and I wanted to get the remaining 5 boxes gone through and I just did. No more boxes to go through. Just need to wait to get my stuff shredded tomorrow morning.

My car is fully loaded now for the 6th time to take stuff for donation. My husband loaded his car 3 times. And we had a relative load his car once with stuff.

A few of the boxes I will need to go through and organize better.

Will be giving some of the good boxes away because now we have way too many empty boxes. And, we also have a LOT of hanging folders, I think about 4 full file boxes of them. I can give away 3 of the boxes.

I don't know how many boxes we have left, maybe 30 something. About 7-8 of them have office supply stuff. 5-6 of the boxes are books that I wanted to keep. Some of the kids' school stuff and some of my old engineering college stuff that they can use if they want when they go to engineering school, which both want to. Quite a few boxes have pictures in them, which is a goal I will have this summer is to organize all the physical pictures.

The rest is just stuff I want to keep. I probably will be able to mark this goal completed tomorrow or over the weekend.

I've spent 2 days this week going over financial paperwork. I have A LOT to be shredded. I am scheduled to have a mobile shredding company that I've been using for the past couple years come to my home to do the shredding.

They also do media like floppy discs, etc. And they also do hard drives, too. I've got so much stuff for them. I'll be glad to get rid of all this paperwork securely and I can watch them shred the stuff.

I've spent other days getting rid of lots of clothing, kitchen items, books, and other stuff. The garage is looking TONS better than when we started nearly a month ago. My husband helped me the first day back then, but it's basically been me for most of the stuff since then.

I didn't take before and after photos, but we had very little "white" wall space when we began in January.

You can type any date in plain English like in 3 weeks or next month.
You can also type in recurring due date like every day, every week and every month.
