I went with an HD-DVR straight from the cable company, rather than mess with buying a TiVo and cable card. After about a month, I can’t imagine ever going back to traditional TV.

I think my favorite feature is fast-forwarding through the banal “get to know the guests” part of Jeopardy. That show has about 10 minutes of actual content.

One negative: DVR doesn’t work so great for sports. Several recorded Euro 2008 soccer matches have been ruined by overheard conversations or inadvertently seeing the score on Sportscenter or the ESPN ticker.

Not that I need to watch anymore TV, but I am so sick of commercials! Just turn on Dancing with the Stars or The Moment of Truth to see what I mean… it’s absurd how much garbage time there is in watching these shows.

Plus, I don’t have a cable box, so I may get a better picture or more channels to upgrade with a Digital Video Recorder.

and I completely LOVE it. They are practically free now with the rebates, and the service charge isn’t that much. If you have more than one the second service charge is only $6.99 instead of the normal $12.99

I highly recommend getting tivo, you’ll save time and be able to record things that fit your interests.

But we got two DVRs through DirecTV last week, which is close enough for me. Now I just have to figure out how to work them. ;-)

you actually spend less time in front of the tv while watching more good content. For example, in a half-hour show, there might only be 18 minutes of actual show.

If you watch two hours of TV now, you’ll get to see all the same shows, without commercials, in about an hour and 20 minutes.

That means you’ll have an extra 40 minutes per day to do your 43 things, and not have to put up with obnoxious commercials.
