I think I’m a waterbaby at heart. I don’t get to be immersed in water very often, but it’s weirdly liberating when I am. It has something to do with knowing that in order to not sink like a rock, you have to rid yourself of fear, let yourself relax, and fully trust that the laws of physics and nature will keep you afloat.
Worth doing!
... but know enough to get in the waves by myself and try, try again.

So, I lived in Hawaii for like, nine years when I was younger and didn’t use that opportunity to really enjoy the island. I’m moving back in December and will now take advantage of everything the island has to offer. Hoping to learn to surf and swim with dolphins within a year of living there. That would be two off my list!

Here I am catching the very first wave of my life last week in Southern California. See that stupid care-free look on my face? I have a theory that I’m so serious all the time because when I’m truly happy, like in this photo, I look like a moron. What a beautiful day that was. Even though I grew up on the right coast, there are no waves there big enough to surf. So my boyfriend, who can and does surf, put me on this boogie board and shoved me in the direction of the first big wave. I ate it (a few times) but it was well worth it. My next Southern California visit might be with a surf board, but for now, this is a start: catching my first wave!
