...California Woods. It tends to be difficult to do a lot of high-impact activities when I always have strollers/baby packs with me, but this is a somewhat unknown treasure that I need to visit this year.
I joined our local nature center and it turns out they have miles of trails for hiking. Woo!
Even if its more of a walk then a hike (I live in a non-mountiany area !!) – I love hiking and I want to make sure I do a lot of it – not only this summer, but throughout my entire life !
Mini-hike around the pond today. It was a beautiful day, sunny and spring-like. We saw Eranthis hyemalis and Fulica atra and had a great time. Came home after almost 3 hours with veeery muddy shoes and paws!
:-)

Worth doing!
this is great fun, specially spur of the moment ones. i did 6 miles spur of the moment today, 5 of which were in soaking wet smelly shoes (had to cross a swamp)
I’m not the typical outdoorsy person. But I do have a dog, I’m kind of depressed and I spend way too much time in front of computer screens. So lately I have had this idea that hiking more regularly would be a good thing for me. My dream would be to hike Kungsleden in Northern Sweden someday. It´s supposed to be beautiful. I’ll start on a much smaller scale though. Probably with 4-hour hikes close to home.

I feel that I can safely take this goal off because I’ve accomplished it many times over, and incorporated it into my regular life. It it 100% worth doing and doing again.
There’s no such thing as a cure-all, but exercise is about as close as it gets. It’s good for my physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I does a great job at squashing depression or a bad mood. And hiking is a great way to do it.
I tried meetup.com and found a very promising group of local hiking enthusiasts, but apparently the moderator had to leave the group a while ago and the group expired shortly after I joined. I don’t know much about how the meetup.com thing works or I might try starting a group myself, but being a novice hiker, I think people would want someone with more experience to lead the thing. At least I got myself on a waiting list of people interested in one.
Got hiking boots, hikers backpack and a few ideas of where to go, but I’m putting this off until next spring so I can wrangle a few friends into going with me. I’m still going to plan out the logistics though, so when its time, I’ll be all set and ready to go.
