Ride the STP in '09!!!
Let's bike! 6 months ago

I finally bought a bike and am getting into bicycling around Seattle. I’ve decided that a good way to keep myself motivated and get into the spirit of living in Seattle is to join up on the ride for 2009’s Seattle To Portland Bicycle Classic.

I should probably figure out a training schedule to start this summer so that I can get used to some distance riding while it’s still warm out. The ride isn’t for another year, but it’s never to early to get into decent shape.

Plan the most amazing wedding ever
4.5 months to go! 7 months ago

Oops, I’d better get on the ball! Only 4.5 months?

What we’ve reserved so far:
Venue
Caterer
Hotel Reservations
Cake
Dress
Brides maid dresses (well this is a half check, as we have the young ladies outfitted but the older ladies left to their own devices.)
Florist
Centerpieces (we’re making some ourselves)
Photographer
Rehearsal dinner reservations
Hair
Makeup
Food Tasting
Cake Tasting

What is still to work on:
Shuttle Service
After party
Ceremony writing
Shoes
Bespoke suit for Buster
Veil (to be made by a friend)
Dress Alterations (need to do this ASAP, holy crap)
INVITATIONS (our friends are designing)
ADDRESSES (my spread sheet looks barren!)
Liquor order

I’m totally stoked, but starting to get butterflies. 4.5 months seems like not a very long time when I consider that I started planning last September.

I would say that planning a wedding is easier than most women let on. All I really needed was a few (shoot me) Martha Stewart planning tips and some solid ideas. Our styles match pretty well, so once we had our big rocks in place, things started to coast. I’m intimidated by the whole invitation process, and will breathe relief once that’s over.

I’ve been tooling around blurb.com today and am super excited to make our photo albums! I would totally recommend that anyone get all their photos on disc and make an album themselves. It’s super affordable.

Do the apartment therapy 8-week home cure (read all 2 entries…)
Apartment Therapy: The 4 Month Cure! 8 months ago

Well, we’ve finished. It took us longer than expected because contractors in Seattle run on the dreaded West Coast Contractor Time. Out of the 3 contractors we needed, only one was on the ball.

No matter. I imagine that we were also slow on the uptake at one point or another.

Apartment Therapy was different for us than it was for the usual home-re-decorator. I had just moved half of my belongings across the country to live here, and he has long been a minimalist. We found then that our problem was in blending our two styles. The first few chapters of AT were extremely useful in this because it gave us reason to actually sit down at a table and discuss styles we liked (over a formidable stack of magazines) or wanted to emulate. Months later, I found the color palates and picture hanging chapters to be most helpful.

I have to admit that we STILL have 2 closets to completely clean out, but everything on the walls and in the rooms is pretty, organized, and homey. We managed to solve many of the problems our open loft space had with flow and cook some good meals in the process. I’d give AT an A+ if you’re really ready to make a change. I wouldn’t restrict yourself to 8 weeks, though. We had a bunch of fun letting our contractors run wild and partying while we waited.
