After being away for almost a week, I came home to find the grass had not grown a bit. But the dandelions are out of control! A sea of yellow flowers… and the weed whacker is broken. Sounds dumb, but i’ve never used a lawn mower in my life. Might be time to learn lol.
I was a little panicked with the possibility of the psycho landlady coming over yesterday, so I took to the weeds with my scissors. lol. Cut about half of them. I should probably figure out what to do about the rest… sigh… this is Barney’s job.
But I (mistakenly) mentioned it to him. He’s out of town for another couple weeks at least and now he’s all stressed about how the lawn will get done. I need to do it just to let him not worry about crap he can’t control from far away. At least that’s what a good girlfriend would do…

We have these big obnoxious brick planters in the front yard, I wish they weren’t there really. They are just awkwardly placed I think… right across the lawn sort of cutting it off a couple feet from the front sidewalk. Two, on either side of the walkway. One has some kind of big flowering bush (looks like the middle part of it is dead and only the outer thirds have foliage). The other is full of weeds. I pull them sometimes, just so our nosy/retired neighbors don’t think (more) ill of us. But I want some flowers there. I’m thinking multi colored daisies (or those flowers that look like daisies, maybe they’re something else). I don’t know anything about flowers though, and I’d hate for them to die out in a week and then I have to buy more… or more realistically, give up.
More brick planters line the edge of the house, front and side. Someone planted bulbs there, for which I am thankful. We get daffodils (love them!) and some other common flowers I don’t know the names of. So I sometimes pull a few weeds to keep them pretty. Not much though. Not with any real purpose.
In the back yard is where I’d like to do some work just so I can hang out there more. There are some roses and those pretty hangy-down flowers…um the name escapes me right now. A few bushes that flower anyway. And PILES of Barney’s building crap. Scrap lumber, tools, recycling… just shit everywhere. Sigh. But, if I face to the left… just grass and (possibly) flowers.
There’s a little cement pad between the junk and the pretties. I’d like to set up a little place for morning coffee and journaling.
Anyway… it would be a good excuse to sit outside with the dog. Pull weeds and plant stuff. I had houseplants long ago… but I notice when I’m not taking care of myself, I totally neglect the plants too.
