8 months and it’s wearing quite thin… for both of us. Now it’s winter and a carpenter needs to work through the winter. Come spring however (and 1 yr of this crap), if he’s still working down there we are going to have issues. Assuming there will be something available closer to home by then… jeesh, I miss my man.

Ok well… the very good news is that Barney has finally gotten his much-earned company truck and gas card. Woooo! Super super proud of him. This will make traveling the ~250 miles to work much cheaper, obviously. Also means less wear on his own truck (which has needed lots of maintenance with all the extra miles)... and thus less money and worry spent.
Sweet. Excellent news.
I guess the bad news is also obvious. This is definitely not a step toward home. Barney tried to disagree with me, saying this wouldn’t make it harder to leave if a local job came available. We’ll see I suppose… I do believe he would rather be home, but he’s very loyal.
Anyway… if he must work far away right now, at least he should get everything he can out of it. A gas card will help immensely.
Yippee!!
Last night talking w/ Barney I announced that I’m probably going to start whining more about him coming home. Well, first I gently suggested to him that (after 4.5 months working 250mi from home) a conversation with his boss might be in order, regarding the intended length of his stay on this job.
Union carpenters can be let go at any time, it’s normal. He’s a foreman, though, and they like him enough to have kept him employed for over a year. But they don’t give him the same treatment as their company foremen… as in a company truck and gas card (which every other foreman has). They don’t cover his lodging, which I believe they originally said they would do… don’t kick down gas money or per dium. Nothing. So do they want to keep him on or not? seems a fair question…
Anyway, I can’t gripe about it too much until I get my income situation back in order. He is working. But there is some discussion as to how the cost of gas, lodging, time away from home/family balances against the higher pay scale. He could be home on unemployment and working for his random buddies under the table.
AND having sex regularly. yeah…come home Barney.
Who knows when he’ll come home for good? There’s no talk of it at all. Will we move down there at some point? Oh that’s a scary thought. But last time he worked far away like this, I said ‘next time we’re just going to move’. What I meant was… don’t work far away.
