Joined a Jo’s Little Women Club at my local quilt shop. LOVE IT! I am not all into the stuff they’re making but I generally like her fabric and overall look of stuff – but it will just be a good way to meet some other quilters and maybe figure out which guild to join or whatever… learn some new techniques. Collect more fabric…. hmmm.
Here’s the start of another Jane Stickle block – family reunion. It’s really a 9-patch/9-patch where you have 5 mini-9-patches inside a larger 9-patch. It’s pretty cool. The small squares are .5” square. The overall size will be 4” square. This mini-9-patch is just one of the 5 9-patches in the block.
This is made with another combination of Judie Rothermel’s Sturbridge Village Miniatures and Civil War Dressing Gowns lines. Ooooooh how I love these….
Here’s tonight’s entry. I’ve waited too long for this. I am taking my quilting time and making stuff. dammit. Color pattern plan be damned. I am just digging in. I love this stuff.
This is Rayelle’s Fence from the Jane Stickle quilt. This was a pretty quick one. I forgot I could save time by laying opposite strips facing and cut blocks paired up to save time with matching them up right before sewing. Some of this stuff is coming back to me now from the class last year with CJ.
This is another 4.5” block – and this was made rotary cutting strips according to the dear jane software. The fabric is by Judie Rothermel. The Rose colored fabric is from Sturbridge Village Miniatures, and the light background small floral print is from Judie’s Civil War Dressing Gowns line. I love these fabrics so much I’m gonna cry now. No, not really. But I love them so much I could wet my pants. Yes, I really could.
New block. I TOOK time on Saturday whilst JW was gone outta da house and set up all my fargin’ quilting gear and went to work on this puppy. When I was about 95% done I had two thoughts – 1) this is never going to lay flat and 2) this is way too busy and looks like crap. I am ready to consider revising comment #1. As for #2, I think I’ve learned that even if the focal fabric is nearly solid which it is in this case, the background fabric has to be more subtle than this. It almost obscures the star motif. But love the colors and the fabrics. Love the block too but not in this combo. of fabrics. This was foundation pieced using two different fabrics from Judie Rothermel/Marcus Bros. “Regency” line – either 1 or 2. The Dear Jane software is awesome in that you can print foundation template patterns for anything and even move the sections around before printing them… but it’s lacking in that the numbering system doesn’t always work and if you don’t know that much about foundation piecing, it can be pretty confusing figuring out which things should be units and what order to sew the units together… but it’s a learning process.
These are tricky little sons a bitches.
It works! yahooey!
I was bummin because since I had to buy a new system I didn’t think this software would work anymore – but I tried installing it last night on the vista-system and it DOES seem to work! I’m so excited.
I lost all the work I did designing my variation but I have printouts and kept pretty detailed notes on the process and my thinking so I can recreate it. “All is not lost.”
I am just DYING to dig back into this – I just can’t seem to find the time. argh…
This is another absolutely gorgeous line of reproduction fabric by Judie Rothermel for Marcus Bros. fabrics. I would love to make a shirt or dress out of several of these in this collection…
Got a set of fat 1/16ths of this but would like a full set of FQs. LOVE IT. Another Judie Rothermel (of course)
