One night, several years ago, late at night, I was talking to a very good friend all night on instant messenger. I don’t even remember what we were talking about, but he told me to look out my window, he could see the northen lights. I looked out my window and there they were. I spent hours that night watching them, and I knew that he was doing the same. I brought a blanket outside and lay on the ground staring at the sky. It was the strangest feeling, I felt so close to him although he was at his house and I was at mine and we weren’t even talking at that point. But he was seeing the same thing as me. The exact same, beautiful, almost otherworldly thing. It’s the closest I’ve ever felt to someone and we weren’t even in the same room.
At one point I was still inside, and trying to watch them out the window so I hung out the window completely, only one foot on the window sill and one hand holding on.
I saw them one other time, when I was a little kid. My parents got me out of bed, told me to put on my slippers and a sweater and we watched them from our doorway.
