Emily is looking forward to a new semester!

Clean up the documents on my computer (read all 3 entries…)
Oh dear god. 1 year ago

So apparently that horrible grinding noise my computer keeps making isn’t my fan, it’s my hard drive. Which means it’s probably about to go kablooie.

It’s been making the noise for about six months, so I need to get off my ass and start backing up my data. Which means I need to see what’s worth backing up and what’s worth saving.

Hold me, I’m scared. :[

Good luck with the backing up. It’s never fun to have a hard drive crash.
I try to have a regular routine to back things up, but I’m always afraid that I’ll lose stuff. That’s why I upload lots of pictures to Flickr as I know that they’ll be there.
Apparently Google is supposed to be launching an online storage thing soon. Hopefully soon enough so you could possibly back some stuff up there. But shiny plastic disks are good for back up too.
Another option (but it costs more money) could be an external hard drive.

Thanks!

Yeah, Flickr is pretty much awesome! I’ll have to look into the Google thing…

And the sad thing is that I have an external hard drive, but it’s 1,000 miles away from me at the moment because I didn’t have room in my luggage for it when I flew back.

I’ve backed up the most important stuff, so hopefully my computer can make it another couple of weeks until I get home.

That’s too bad about the hard drive being far away. Hopefully your computer will hold up until you go home.
Just type gently and only write happy things and maybe that will let it go on a bit longer.
