I have been actively contributing to R43 for 5 or 6 weeks now. I have full commit rights to the project (which I have not abused) and about 1/3 of all code in the project was contributed by me (inflated due to our testing scheme). I have helped us achieve a design that makes further API implementation easy and helped us reach read only feature completeness. I am also actively working on authentication and we hope to have a feature complete implementation with authentication to release as 1.0 by the end of August.
I write code for r43 almost daily and it has changed how I feel about myself. My time in the evenings and weekends is spent in a worthwhile pursuit and I am contributing to the world at large. I recently describe open source software as volunteerism for geeks and mean it wholeheartedly. In open source software, the geeks of the world unite to make the world a better place.
