Learn electric guitar (read all 4 entries…)
Untitled 1 year ago

So I decided to tackle my biggest issue about not practicing my guitar enough – I’m afraid of damaging it. It’s autographed by my favorite musician so it has intense sentimental value to me and I do enjoy playing it, but I decided that should be my performance guitar. In the meantime? I needed something I can practice with.

So I went out and bought myself a guitar today, a used red Squier Affinity. It came with a soft shelf and Fender cable so I was pretty pleased with that, and it has a fantastic sound. I got it home this afternoon and immediately started practicing so I can already tell it’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I am a believer in learning from people who know more than you. there are so many things that you likely to miss that a teacher will pass on to you quickly and easily and so you will be a better player in a shorter time.

I’d be looking at lessson as a reward rather than a punishment. not sure what your bigger aims are but if you want to be a musician, then lessons make more sense.

I’m unfortunately unable to afford more lessons at this time is the thing (I’m maxed out at voice lessons costume $25.00 an hour, four times a month), so self-instruction is my only option; the only places I’ve been able to find that offer lessons are the two local guitar shops but they want you to have bought a guitar from them and both my guitars I’ve gotten from somewhere else.

I’m not too worried about it as I’m already a musician; I’ve had sixteen years of experience with piano and going on ten years of voice so I know how to read music and music theory, now I just need to apply what I know to this and work on reading tabs.
