You experience isn't unusual.

The majority of visitors to the Grand Canyon look out spend 10 or less minutes looking out. If you understand the geology, hike down to the bottom and back up, or spend time camping there you would see a completely different canyon.

Then again the “Grand Canyon State” does translate into the “Big Hole State”.
