get a pedicure (read all 4 entries…)
gift--a couple questions 1 year ago

My boyfriend gave me a gift card for a manicure and pedicure as a Christmas gift! My hands and feet are starting to swell since I’m in my last six weeks of pregnancy, so I really appreciate it.

But I have a couple questions:

Are tips to the person doing it expected/accepted/appreciated?

& what kind of manicure can I get with my real nails? Will they just shape and paint them a solid color?

I have nice strong, long nails that are my own, so there’s no need for fake ones. I had a few fake nails once where my real ones had broken for a high school homecoming or prom and hated them because they were a pain to remove.

Oohhh – I’m jealous! I’m going to try and start getting pedicures once a month this year! When my feet look good, it makes me feel good!

To try and help answer your questions – tips are expected, accepted and appreciated! I usually tip $10 for a pedicure and $5 for a manicure but I guess it would depend on how much these services cost in your area. In mine, a pedicure is about $30, so I tip 33%.

I read somewhere that the more personal the service, the higher the tip should be. Plus, I have a little guilt complex about pedicures, even though I love them – I feel funny about someone washing and scrubbing my feet!

When I get manicures, I always have the woman manicure my real nails. They should massage your hands with lotion, shape up your nails and trim your cuticles. I think they can do just about anything to real nails that they could do to fake ones. I usually get a french manicure because if I have a color painted on, I want to peel it off!

I hope that helped some! Enjoy your day of pampering!!

Thanks, you’re a big help.

I think I’ll just go for the french manicure because I’ve never had one and I like the way they look.
