I would visit local craft fairs and talk to the crafters and see how they do it. Not exactly copy what they make but get some ideas and ask how they do it. Local flea markets, local craft fairs. Even go to the library and look up jewelry books that use jems and stones to make pieces. I know of one lady who shapes small stones and then sets them in a piece of jewelry to make bracelets, necklaces, pins and pendants. if I find any web sites I will pass them to you because I would love to make jewelry myself.
